Board of Directors – Director Job Description

The Board is vested with the authority and responsibility for establishing policy, managing all affairs of IDA-UMB, and advancing the interest of The Association in accordance with the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws of The Association. The Board is a working Board and does its work through committees.

Below is a list of a Director’s minimum responsibilities:

  • Attends and actively participates in four Board meetings, either in person or by phone.
  • Personally invests in IDA-UMB with an annual contribution.
  • Serves as an ambassador and advocate of The International Dyslexia Association, it’s mission, purposes, goals and activities.
  • Participates in the Board’s financial planning including established accounting policies and procedures, and review and approval of annual budget.
  • Works to ensure the organization has adequate resources to execute its mission.
  • Works to ensure effective organizational planning.
  • Actively participates on at least two committees, one of which is the member’s choice.
  • Provides careful, wise and effective stewardship of IDA-UMB resources.
  • Understands and signs the Board’s Conflict of Interest Statement.
  • For a new member, participates in a board orientation session which is held during the May Joint Board Meeting.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of the Annual Conference.
