Introduction to Orton-Gillingham Approach

Classes are held Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm

The Reading Center/Dyslexia Institute of MN
847 5th Street N.W.
Rochester, MN  55901

For more than 59 years, licensed teachers, paraprofessionals, home educators, parents, and even grandparents have taken our training courses, which equip trainees to provide breakthrough instruction that helps struggling students learn to read.

The Orton-Gillingham approach, as taught by highly qualified Reading Center instructors, employs comprehensive, proven reading instruction with an intensive practicum to prepare the learner for immediate use with students. During Institute, participants will learn the approach, the structure of the English language, and apply what’s been learned by planning and teaching actual lessons. Trainees in Basic Training Institute are provided with:

An introduction to the philosophy & the teaching techniques / components involved in the Orton-Gillingham approach

* An awareness of visual & auditory dyslexia
* An understanding of the essential elements
* An opportunity to begin to learn the basic phonetic / linguistic structure of English
* Hands on in-class practice plus plan and teach actual lessons

Trainees successfully completing Basic Training Institute (with practicum) are equipped to begin providing this approach with struggling students in grades 1-3.
